SysMate Hosts File Walker makes it easy to add entries the current Windows Hosts file. Under Windows 8, the Hosts is a protected file that cannot be easily edited without jumping through several hoops.
When you run SysMate Hosts File Walker, it will automatically load the current Hosts file and allow you to add entries. You can also choose to create a backup, replace the current Hosts with a backup copy, set it to the default, or delete the Hosts file completely.
The program does not require installation, but you need to have .NET 2 or 4 installed to run it.

If you are anything like me, tinkering with every aspect of your os, or just need to modify the host file once in a while, this is far easier than browsing over to the sys32 drivers folder and editing with notepad. It also makes a backup which is nice, saves from copy and paste method at least and can restore the default after someone mucks up the host file. Very nice time saver. |
